What Customers Say About How to Rebuild Your Volkswagen air-Cooled Engine (All models, 1961 and up):

As a side note, I am converting this fuel injected bug to a carburetor. Although I bought both books, this book was the most helpful in my rebuild.

Although I have rebuilt other engines, I had never worked on a VW. I bought a 1977 VW as a hobby to rebuild.

Just a lot of good tips and how-to that appeared to come from guys with hands-on experience rather than engineer nerds from the official manual. So I bought this book as well as the official VW service manual by Bently.

This book has a lot of illustrations on how to take the car apart and put it back together that the official service manual does not have. If your vw is fuel injected, however, you will need the Bently manual.

Fuel injection parts are just too expensive and I do not need the complications of fuel injection when a carburetor can do the same thing simpler and cheaper.

This book is very clear and uses real pictures. I find this book to be easy reading and easy to follow with its directions.

I used this book as my priamry step-by-step guide to my first engine rebuild and it made the job very easy. .if you're thinking about rebuilding a classic VW air-cooled engine and an excellent addition to your "tech" library if you own a classic VW. Instructions and procedures are written clearly, there are a wealth of photos and the book is easy to follow. The information in this book is presented clearly and straight-forward. While the John Muir book is somewhat "whimsical" and even entertaining in it's karma/zen approach to the classic Beetle, Tom Wilson's is technical and accurate. I would highly recommend you read through the book completely and study the procedures and steps before tearing into your motor; there are some tasks that can be a bit tricky and you must be careful. This book makes an excellent adjunct to the Bentley series of official VW shop manuals and adds technical depth to the the John Muir book.all these books should grace the shelf of a serious vintage VW enthusiast.

Bought this for my son to use during his first engine build. Easy to follow & plenty of illustrations.

I had to drop and rebuild my 1979 VW bus engine and this was the perfect book for that job. The pictures are a great companion to the written instructions. There was a lot of info I learned that helped me look for some parts and the photos showed those parts in great detail. Great book and hopefully I'll never have to pick it up again.
